INTERVIEW: Five Minutes with Personal Stylist Daniella Marks
How did you become a stylist?
My first foray into the world of styling was as a fashion intern at InStyle and Tatler Magazine. My experience of styling on fashion shoots helped me to progress into my next role as lead Personal Stylist at Harvey Nichols. Five years on and I have since launched a bespoke personal styling service in London.
Describe your typical working day?
Each day varies depending on the client and their brief. I have to be available to shop and source outfits whenever the client needs, so I have no set routine. A typical day includes fashion consultations, personal styling appointments and fashion previews for new collections.
What’s the best part of your job?
The most rewarding aspect of my job is helping clients become more comfortable and confident with their image. Demonstrating how to dress effectively and enhance one’s features, greatly improves their body confidence and self-esteem.
Must-have item for SS13?
My key item this season is a sharp tailored blazer in the latest graphic trend. There were some great styles on the runway at Helmut Lang. This season is all about back to basics with black and white being the boldest colours on trend. The two together create an amazing contrast.
Your style icon?
Carine Roitfeld, former editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris, is my fashion royalty. She has a chic and elegant take on contemporary fashion and always looks great. Model Miranda Kerr is also an icon, looking just as stylish off-duty as she does on the catwalk.
Favourite high street haunt?
I spend far too much time and money in Zara! I love their collections and how they emulate designer looks for a fraction of the price. Zara is great for silk shirts and tailored suits.
What’s your signature personal style?
I would define my style as feminine and fashion forward. I love print and colour and never shy away from making a statement, especially with accessories. Dresses are my staple item as they flatter my shape most of all.
Essential beauty product?
My latest must-have beauty product is Tom Ford’s Brow Sculptor. Eyebrows play such an important role in framing the face and this item does the job perfectly.
Most stylish city?
I am forever inspired by the styles and trends I see in London. With such diverse culture, fashion here is exciting and eclectic. For me there is no better place to people-watch and admire style than London.
Top tip for an quick and easy style update?
The best way to update a look or an outfit is with the latest accessory. Tap into new trends by investing in shoes, bags, scarves and jewellery to complement multiple items in your wardrobe. Wear classic outfits with contemporary accessories for a modern twist.
